A Update.....finally!

Uncle Seth and Marcus!!
These past two weeks have been incredibly full and busy!
The weather has been very warm and breezy- spring has certainly arrived here in Kansas!! We have all enjoyed the change in temperature; the little ones enjoying romping around outside & Seth and Noah finding milking cows and building houses a lot more pleasant without layers of coats and gloves to ward off the cold!
School continues, and our diligent little scholars hurry to complete their studies and get outside! Dad's spring vacation at school falls this week, and we are enjoying a few days with Dad and no school!! :)
We enjoyed a spur-of-the-moment visit from our dear friends, the Kroekers last week-end. It was delightful to see them and we so enjoyed fellowshipping with them!

Mr. Kroeker and Karly enjoying baby Marcus!

Foosball- something sure is funny!! :)

Never mind the mud; it's still fun outside!

Chocolate cake and ice-cream- the perfect treat for a 12-year-old!

Our Ohio Sunshine!

--Phoebe and Hannah--
The last day of February came with a ray of sunshine as our dear friend, Hannah arrived to spend 2 weeks with the Ansons. They generously 'shared' her with us for part of the time she was in Kansas, and we so enjoyed spending time with her! This was a trip of many firsts for her; target practice, and a trip to the dairy barn to help with the milking. :)
But today our sunshine girl makes her way back to the State from which she hails. We'll miss you Hannah! Thanks for coming!!

Supper looks good!

Hiking the Kansas Hills.

The weather has been beautiful the past two weeks; 40's to upper 60's and lots of sunshine. Our whole family has enjoyed the warmer temperatures after a very cold February! Spring certainly is around the corner!
As soon as the school books were put away one afternoon last week, Esther rounded up the youngsters for a hike in the pasture. They loved it. I trailed along behind with the camera and managed to get a few pictures.

Handguns.

Our Ohio Sunshine, Hannah: don't get tangled up with her!!
Daddy.....dead center!
The beautiful weather today coaxed many of us outside this afternoon, and as Scott and Seth were polishing up their skills with the pistols, a couple of us decided to give it a shot. :) Armed with plenty of ammo and earplugs, we hit the hay-bales.

Scott; is it possible for him to miss the target?!

Get a 'load' of this guy!

Take note from the expert!

A flock of geese flew by over-head, but it must have scared them, as none of them stayed behind to watch!! :)

Esther......don't mess with her when she has a handgun!!

Noah, is it possible for him to hit the target?!? :)

Although his first time behind the sights, Moses did great!
I also had my turn, but there is no photographic evidence of it! :)

Florida Oranges.

Valentines Day is a much annticipated day at the Ulmers, for with it comes the arrival of fresh Florida oranges!! Grandma generously has a case sent to us every Valentines day, and they don't last long around here!!
There is nothing like a fresh, juicy orange with your eggs for breakfast, or as a snack in the afternoon!!
Thank-you, Grandma!!
After the oranges are all gone, Silas loves to use the box as a boat!

Parson Guests.....

Happy Birthday Andrew (1 week early)!!
Last week-end the Shepards traveled up from Parsons to meet baby Marcus and we enjoyed a quick visit with them!! It is always precious to see how much Justice has grown, and watch him and Silas play together! It was great to see Andrew and Rebecca and get caught up with them on the past weeks.

Mommy teaching Justice how to play the piano.

"Yep, I've got both these boys in neck-hold!!" (Uncle Silas)
"Um...Mommy, could you help me!??!" (Paul)
"I've got 9 Uncles, I hope they all don't do this!!" (Justice)

While Justice was here, we tried to get a photo of the three boys together. None of them were particularly in the mood for a photo shoot, except Uncle Silas, but then, he is always up for a picture of himself! :) It was impossible to get all three to smile and look at the camera, and Paul kept trying to get down.

"Okay guys, photo shoot is over; I'm out of here!!" (Paul)
"No Paul!! Not yet!! It's still picture time!!" (Uncle Silas)
"I wish those guys would get their act together, they are ruining this photo shoot" (Justice)

"We'll smile, but we won't look at you, Aunt Elizabeth!!"
Aren't they adorable?!?! :)

Another Snowfall!!

Last winter we enjoyed very warm (60-70 degrees!) weather during the first few months of the year. Not so this year!! On Monday we got our second heavy snowfall of the year; it started snowing mid-afternoon and when we got out of bed Tuesday morning, there was over a foot of snow on the ground!! Needless to say, Dad's work was canceled, and Seth was pursuaded to take off for the day to go sledding with us. :)
The snow drifted quite a bit, and our younger ones discovered huge 4 foot drifts all over our yard!!! Just before noon, we gathered the sleds and headed for the field behind the house. Those first few minutes of sledding were tremendous fun!
(The purple sled was Seth's but he rode on the tractor that round using his video camera!! The footage he got is really something!) :)

Unfortunately, we had only been sledding for about 10 minutes when the tractor became stuck in a huge snowdrift! This was quite surprising because in the past 10 years of sledding with the tractor, it has never once been stuck. It was very difficult to get the tractor out, considering the facts that it was going slightly down hill (you wouldn't have guessed by the picture, would've you!?!?) and once you dug all the snow away from the tires, you found a thick layer of ice...

Trying to dig the tractor out.

Once the wheels were somewhat clear, pushing the tractor out!
After a hour of trying to get the tractor out, Seth decided to see if his truck could pull it out. He hurried over the hill to get the truck, while the rest of us took a much needed break from shoveling and pushing. Before too long, Seth came back over the hill.......on foot. Unfortunately, the truck was also stuck in the knee-deep snow.
To make a long story short, after 2 1/2 hours of pushing and manuvering, we succeeded in getting the tractor out. We then were able to pull the truck out with the tractor and both vehicles and their passengers made it safely back to the house. No one was exactly eager to go back out immediately to go sledding, but this afternoon, we'll be heading back out, only this time, we'll try and avoid the drifts......:)

Stangl Visit!!

Susanna, Phoebe, Julia, Justus and Charity!
On Saturday our family (minus Noah who had to work) traveled up to Omaha to spend some time with the Stangl family. We had a wondeful time!! The Stangls graciously opened their home up to us and we enjoyed the sweet fellowship we had with them. Given that there were 19 children present between our families, it made for quite a house-full!!! :)
