Trivia Tuesday!!

Trivia Tuesday has returned!!! :)
The trivia for this week is:
Part of our family was spending the day with friends freezing corn. After we finished our work, we loaded up in our bus to come home. While we were saying goodbye, someone noticed that we had a very low, almost flat rear tire. Our friends had a air hose and offered to air up the tire so we could drive to a nearby town to get it fixed. One of our boys got under the bus and to fill up the tire. Now, we have 4 tires on the rear of our bus-- two on each side. He found it difficult to navigate the hose to the right spot between the tires to reach the air valve, but after some fiddling, he was able to get a good connection and began airing up the tire. After a few minutes, when the tire was sufficiently filled, he disconnected the hose and proceeded to sit up--but wait. Calmly, he looked up at the crowd of spectators and quietly said "I'm stuck." His left arm had been positioned between the two tires to hold the hose in place. But as the deflated tire had filled up, it had wedged his arm tightly inbetween the tires!! After letting the air back out of the tire, he was able to free his arm (to the great relief of his mother)! :)
The question is, of course; which Ulmer boy was it???

Trivia Tuesday!!

Due to being away from home, and therefore unable to assemble the post containing the answer to the last trivia; the new trivia has been post-poned until next week!!

So, I guess ya'll get a little more guessing time!!

But I will give ya'll a little clue---------it's a double digit number!!

Trivia Tuesday!!

The answer is.............

Esther!!

She has had a very low pain tolerance since she was a baby, and therefore when she is confronted with severe pain, she just faints.

The first time she was pretty young, Mom was placing her in the highchair for a meal and Esther decided she didn't want to sit at the moment. She straightened her legs and refused to slide into the seat. She ended up falling on the ground and hitting her head. She then began crying and instantly fainted.

The second time she was a little older; 5 or 6 and was driving a little toy tricycle around. The car flipped over backwards (she must have been driving too fast!) and instantly fainted once more.

The last time she fainted, she was 10. We were getting ready to go to church on Sunday morning, and Rebecca was doing Esther's hair. As she stood there, getting more and more impatient, she spied the basketball sitting nearby. The next thing we knew she was standing a top the basketball, trying to balance on it. She did not succeed and falling over hit her head on the table and then fainted.

The new trivia is--

"How many vehicles have Dad and Mom owned in the 28 years of their marriage??"

Trivia Tuesday!!

The answer to the last trivia is........

Tabitha!!!

The year of 1993 brought heavy flooding to Kansas and Nebraska. As our midwife drove down from Nebraska for the birth, her normal route was flooded in many spots!! By the time she arrived little Tabitha was already here!!!

And the new trivia is--
What did Dad and Mom do for cheap fun when they were first married with young children??
A. Go outside and roll in mud puddles after it rained.
B. Decorate their faces with fruits and vegetables.
C. Sing with their head in a bowl of water.
D. Roll apples and oranges down their driveway with just their noses.
One of the above options is actually true!!! Leave your best guess!! :)

Trivia Tuesday

The answer to the last trivia is..........

Micah!!

And the new trivia is-----

One morning in early spring, our family was getting up and everyone was getting dressed and ready for the day. As Dad got dressed to go to work, one of the boys came running in from outside-- "Dad, there's a skunk in the yard!!" Arming himself with the shotgun, Dad pursued the skunk down the road until he was able to get a good shot. Completing his mission, he hurried back to the house, trying not to be late for work and avoid being overwhelmed by that trademark smell.
Later that day, several of us children were discussing the skunk and it's odor. As they laughed about "such a big stink for such a little guy", one of the little girls piped up indignantly--

"Excuse me, but please don't talk about that skunk in front of my nose!!"

So, which Ulmer girl has such a sensitive nose???
Happy Guessing!!!

Good Guessing Ya'll!!!

And the new trivia is-

One of our little boys had trouble getting his words straight as a very little youngster!! Just to name a few----
"Please pass the banoccoli (broccoli)."

"These nurdles (noodles) are very good."

"Are we going to get some bikinis (kiwis)???"

Trivia Tuesday!!!

The answer to the last trivia is a bit more complex!!!
Ice-cream cake!!

Fruit-- like the one year Tabitha got a case of cherries for her birthday treat, or the time Seth got 2 dozen kiwis for his treat.

Chicken Casserole (Rebecca asked for this almost every birthday!!)

Root-beer Floats!

BLTS!!

Steak/Hamburgers.
(And Seth requests Potato Salad on every single birthday.)
Because over there are so many birthdays in July, during that month we always have our big 'birthday party'! Instead of ice-cream and cake, the treats are watermelon and brownies!

--Some Honorable Mentions--
Corn Dogs and Macaroni and Cheese (this was very popular when we were under 10).
Shrimp Stir-fry.
Tofu Cheesecake (Blueberry usually).
Ranch Chicken.
And this week's trivia is-----

Who are these two babies???

Trivia Tuesday!!!

The answer to last week's trivia is------
10 moves!!
Dad grew up about 15 minutes from where we now live, and Mom grew up on Long-Island. After they married they settled into their first house in Topeka, KS.
House #1, Their first house was in Topeka, KS. Mom is about 13 months pregnant with Rebecca in that picture..........okay, not quite..........:)

House #2, and a cozy little aparment in Topeka, KS.
Cute little Rebecca became a big sister!!

House #3 was Dad and Mom's final house in Topeka.

House #4, brought the family East-- to Gatlinburg Tennesse!!

House #5, nestled up in the moutains in Pigeon Forge Tennesse!!

House #6, in Raleigh/Durham North-Carolina!!

House #7, brought the family to Mars, Pennsylvania, where the arrival of baby Seth made 5.

House #8, was also in Mars, Pennsylvania--- and Esther joined the family!

House #9, was in Pitsburgh Pennsylvania. When Noah was three weeks old, the family packed up and made the several-hundred mile move to our 10th house. Rebecca had just turned 9, and was moving into her 10th house!!

We moved out West to be near Dad's folks. Out to the old Poppe homestead, where Dad's Grandma had lived as a little girl. Mom was a city girl ,born and bred, and it was no small adjustment getting used to living in the country. (And those of you who have been out to our place know that you can just about see the end of the earth from our front porch-- it's way out in the sticks!!)
But what a great place to raise a family!!

Over the years our house has changed face more than once--inside and out!! Grandma has added siding, re-shingled, remodeled the back-porch, replaced the siding after a gigantic storm, replaced the shingles with tin, remodeled the kitchen and bathroom, painted, trimmed, etc.......And of course the inside of the house changes constantly because we have a Mommy who loves to re-arrange her furniture!!!

We're grateful for the where the Lord has placed us here in our corner of Kansas.
After 18 years here, the whole farm echoes with many precious memories from through the years.
And the new trivia is...............
A special tradition in our family is that on your birthday, the birthday boy/girl is allowed to choose the menu. Through the years there has been a variety of favorites, and yet there are a few dishes that have been requested on at least one birthday a year for years.
So the trivia is--
"What birthday meals/treats have been the most-requested?"

(Special permission is hereby issued for Andrew and Scott to enter their guesses, if they so choose. But bribing your sweet wives for clues is not permitted. ---smile---)
So, let the guessing begin-- and good job to those who guessed accurately last week!

Trivia Tuesday!!

The answer to the last Trivia question is-----

REBECCA!!

She and our adopted cousin; Nathan John, will likely never forget that day!! :) You'll have to ask her the whole story someday!!
Rebecca and Nathan are in the back.
And this week's trivia is..................
"How many times have we moved since Dad and Mom married in 1980?"
Let the guessing begin!! :-)

Trivia Tuesday!!

The answer to last week's trivia is.......................
--Noah--

Congratulations to those who guessed correctly!!

When Noah was 3 years old, he was bitten by a large german shepherd. She caught a lot of his face, just narrowly missing his right eye. His cheek, lips and eyebrow all required stitches-- around 50 total. When he was 11 or 12, he was bitten on both knees by our neighbors dog and had 12 stitches. And last year he has surgery on his elbow, resulting in 8 more. So his approximate total is somewhere around 70 stitches.

Andrew, Moses and Micah are also good guesses-- Moses has had stitches on his knee and eyebrow, Micah cut his finger on a machine and had stitches and Andrew has had around 50 stitches from various different scrapes.

And now to this week's trivia..........

Some time ago, there was a little girl playing with her friend, who we'll call John. John's Mom was watching all the children while our Mom was away at a prenatal. The children were having a wonderful time reading books and playing games while John's Mom made lunch. Now John had a little pair of handcuffs. Those were quite fun for the two little pals, and they would chain each-other up, then liberate themselves with a simple turn of the key. They then chained the little girl and the little boy together-- his ankle and her wrist (or possibly the other way around.......that detail is a bit fuzzy). They climbed and traipsed over everything in sight, until they suddenly found themselves in quite a fix; they were stuck up on top of a very high shelf, 5 or 6 feet off the ground. And they couldn't get down without one or both of them falling. To make matters worse, the key was no where to be found!! Frantically they tried to maneuver their way down, but to no avail. They triple checked their pockets while their siblings searched the room, but still no key!! Finally they called John's Mom to come in, but after trying, she couldn't get them down without one of them falling. (It was becoming rather urgent for them to get down and freed, because both of them needed to use the restroom.) In desperation, John's Father was called home from work to rescue the two culprits. Once the two were safely down from the shelf, the most urgent needs were attended to, but how do you seperate the two?? The key was still no where to be found!! As they contemplated their options, the little girl stuck her hand in the back pocket of her jeans. "Oh......." A stunned hush fell over the room as she pulled a small black key out of her pocket. Ooops!!

So........which Ulmer girl do you think found herself in such a scrape???? :)

Introducing...............

Trivia Tuesday!!

This is a brand new addition to our family blog. Once a week (Tuesday) I will post some random trivia regarding our family. The trivia will be varied in it's form-- from funny stories of something one of us children did, and you get to guess who did it, to a random question like; "How many times have the Ulmers moved?"

For Example;

"Who updates the Ulmer blog?"
That one is pretty easy, but some of the trivia questions may be a bit tricky-- but hopefully they will all be fun to think about, you will all wind up knowing us just a little bit better!
---A couple quick facts to keep in mind while you are guessing.---
The trivia will extend to include all members of our immediate family, including nephews and our brothers-in-law!!
Because the trivia will include them, all Ulmers, Shepards and Ansons are disqualified from guessing!!
The answer to the trivia question will be posted every Tuesday, along with the new trivia for that week. You will have a whole week to guess--- and if you change your mind, you can leave a second guess.
All guesses are welcome!! They can be left as comments, or emailed to us!
So with all that said-- let's jump right in with our first trivia question!!
---This Week's Trivia---
"Which Ulmer Child has had the most stitches?"
So put on your thinking caps and join the fun--- leave your best guess!!
